In Charmed, the characters powers were often reflections of their personalities and quirks. Piper's neurosis and "needing more time” played off her ability to slow down molecules. Prue’s assertive personality and quick temper foreshadowed her telekinetic powers. Phoebe’s lack of ambition and purpose evoked a sense of irony with her power of premonitions.
Although these powers were reflective of the sisters as individuals, they did not choose them. These powers were merely their destiny. In order to stay true to this theme the members of this RPG do not get to choose their playable character’s powers or playable race. Instead, this is done by the Game Master and Administration through the non-playable characters Destiny, Fate or Fortune.
Fate decides the powers and race for most characters. Players have an influence over the fate of their characters as it is determined by the force, moral alignment, and veto you choose for them.
Force and Alignment The Lawful Good are the designated "Protectors of the Innocent" who obey the Laws of Magic enforced by the Governors of Good Magic and written by The Authorities. The Neutral Good obey the Laws of Magic, but refuse to serve as a "Protector of the Innocent". The Chaotic Good will routinely and consistently act outside the Laws of Magic, if they believe it will benefit the Greater Good.
Although the Lawful Evil work in their own interest, they bow to the power of the Evil Authorities and the Laws ordained by them. The Neutral Evil are independent of the influence of the Evil Authorities, but do not challenge the established power for fear of reprisal. The Chaotic Evil wish to overthrow the established Evil Authorities and will use magic for personal gain regardless of the consequences.
Destiny decides the powers and race for characters who are meant to fulfill very specific destinies regarding the Grand Design. Characters destined to wield a magical artifact, defeat a powerful foe, or preserve the magical balance receive replies from Destiny.
Fortune decides the powers and race for characters at random. It’s a game of risk as fortune can be bad or good. Your character could be lawful or chaotic, good or evil, lower level or upper level, young or old, mortal or immortal, magical or non-magical ... any combination thereof!
Before creating a playable character (original or canon), members must submit a character profile. This profile will give these Forces of Nature a feel for the character you want to create and bring to life in Charmed: After the Prophecy. Based on the character pitch, these Natural Forces will indicate the powers, species, and power level of a member’s playable character. Additionally, they will inform you about the character's living space, financial status, occupation, and other key information that should be incorporated into the character's biography.
The purpose of this creation format is to make things more interesting, to instill order, and to basically keep those damn "omnipotent" Mary Sues off our site. It's important to remember that, as in life, nothing is guaranteed when posting in The Nexus. Your character could have great fame and prestige within their chosen career, but absolutely no ties to the supernatural. Contrarily, the fates could determine that your character is at the bottom of the barrel when their chosen career is in concern, live in a crampy little apartment, but possess overwhelming power in terms of weilding mystical forces.
However, these Forces of Nature do recognize that there are some who are ultimately unsatisfied with their Fate or Destiny to such a degree that it affects their ability to enjoy the game. For those individuals, there is an option that is open to them. Prior to posting a character biography, any player may message John directly and request a new Nexus for their character!
Only those who received a Nexus from either Fate or Destiny are eligible as Fortune is meant to be a "luck of the draw" and cannot be overridden. In fact, this new Nexus will be given by Fortune and it will negate any previously requested Veto. And, of course, nothing is without a cost as the new Nexus could potentially entail a lower power level, more passive or restrictive powers, lower socioeconomic status, etc. Be warned, once this option is chosen it cannot be undone!
To create a character, please start a new thread using the form below.
CREATE A NEW THREAD. TITLE IT WITH YOUR CHARACTER'S FIRST AND LAST NAME. CREATE YOUR CHARACTER USING THE FOLLOWING FORM BELOW.
Character Creation Form Behind-the-Character PLAYER ALIAS: What should we call you? PREFERRED PRONOUNS: He/Him, She/Her, etc. PLAYER AGE: No ageism here, just helps us know if we have minors on the board. PLAYER EXPERIENCE: How long have you role-played? PREFERRED CONTACT: How can we contact you outside the forums? TIMEZONE: Pretty self-explanatory.
The Set-Up CHARACTER FACE CLAIM: Who is the celebrity play-by? CHARACTER NAME: First and Last Name please. Middle Name is optional. CHARACTER AGE: In ##’s. FORTUNE: Yes or no? (IF YOU ANSWER YES, SKIP THE REST!) FORCE: of Good or of Evil? ALIGNMENT: Chaotic, Neutral, or Lawful? THE VETO: Name three of the playable races (humans, magical humans, mages, monsters, demons, or angels) you prefer not to play at all. You can also skip the Veto.
Character Profile PERSONALITY BLURB: This should be a brief description about your desired character. What are some of their recurring habits? The good ones? The bad ones? What typically upsets them? What typically makes them happy? Does your character have any particular goals and dreams? How ambitious is the character in reaching these goals? This pitch should give a general, but clear, vision of your character’s dimensionality.
ROLE-PLAY SAMPLE: Provide a decently length role-play sample with the character you intend to bring to life within our role-play world. This helps Destiny, Fortune or Fate gain a "feel" for the type of magical aspects your character should be endowed with. This role-play sample should be reflective of the elements mentioned in your character’s personality blurb. Please do not have your character use any special abilities or refer to themselves as a particular breed of species. Once again, these aspects are to be given to your character by Destiny, Fortune or Fate.
You can complete this role-play sample in one of two ways. The first is a “Freestyle” option where you can have your character perform something mundane or supernatural. Such examples include dealing with a break-up or making their first visit to an occult shop. The second is a “Scenario” option where you can reply to one of the audition scenes provided below.
So you've gotten to the Roleplay Sample part of your Nexus application. It's been nothing but clear skies and smooth sailing up to this point. Vital information? Easy. Personality? Literally the best part. But now you've got to give your proposed character life in a writing sample... and you have no idea where to start.
Well, below we have a selection of prompts to get you started if you choose to make to use of them. It certainly isn't required and freewrite samples are completely acceptable. These prompts are for those individuals who are struggling to come up with a scene.
You are an innocent who was attacked by a Chameleon Demon before being saved by 1/3 of the new Charmed Ones after she received a premonition.
When the potion bottle breaks on the ground at the demon’s feet, it becomes engulfed in flame and quickly reduced to ash. (Gotcha!) Patience practically lets out a celebratory whoop, but refrains. With the demon vanquished, Patience is now free to tend to the second part of her job - ensuring the innocent’s well-being. Honestly, she prefers the vanquishing bit more. Nevertheless, she turns and approaches said innocent, spreading her lips into a warm smile. (Where’s Parker when you need her? No one does bedside manner like her.)
“Crazy, huh?” She says lightly, indicating the pile of ash with her thumb then closes the distance between them. “You’re probably freaked out by what you just saw… or maybe you’re not, I don’t know… but there’s a whole other world…” (How does it go? Something about a curtain… Prue is so much better at this speech.)
Patience lets out a sigh. This is stupid. She isn’t one to tiptoe and coddle. When she has something to say, she just comes out and says it like… “Look, that was a demon. And it was after you for some yet unknown reason. You’re safe for now, but if I’m going to help you stay that way then I need to figure out why it was after you. Any ideas?”
You have recently been assigned as one of Tristan's charges after coming into your powers approximately a year ago. Whitelighters are assigned to witches, druids, shamans, mediums, guardians, and witch practitioners.
A cluster of blue orbs rain down, illuminating the room with their heavenly light before finally materializing. Tristan came immediately upon hearing the call for help through the empathic link shared with his newly assigned charge. So new, in fact, that it’s difficult to guess at the reason for the summons. Neophytes tend to struggle with learning when it’s appropriate to call upon their whitelighter, often overly relying on the angelic guides at first.
“What’s happened?” He asks while sparing a moment to take a glance around. Nothing seems amiss, but that doesn’t necessarily indicate anything one way or the other. Keen observation isn’t going to bring clarity in this instance. Refocusing his attention on his charge, Tristan can already ascertain that there’s no physical injury that would require healing either. (Maybe just a call for guidance then.)
You are a non-magical being who has been on the run from Frost the past couple of weeks after getting involved in some shady business and you've just been cornered.
“Looks like the end of the line.”
Eyes trained on his target, Frost steps into full view after spending so long in the shadows. There’s a sense of satisfaction that comes over the demonic bounty hunter. A twelve foot wall lies just ahead thus eliminating any chance of escape. No way out but through him. It had been a good hunt, but now the chase has finally reached its climax.
“I don’t know who you pissed off,” he says, holding up a single fist which takes on a distinct blue aura as Frost taps into his power; the very one responsible for his name. Looking down, the blue light illuminates his features in a haunting manner. “And, quite frankly, I don’t give a shit.”
Throwing out his hand, fingers splayed, Frost released a powerful blast of cold energy that will completely consume whatever it touches in ice. Once the target his secure, he will be able to haul his bounty back to the Underworld Market and collect.
You have kidnapped Sofia, an officer for the SFPD, and are currently holding her hostage in order to interrogate her for information.
"Ay, Dios mío..." The Latina woman mutters as she slowly comes to. Her head is pounding and she can't quite remember what might have happened. When she goes to feel for any wounds, the officer quickly finds that she is in no position to do so. Now panicked, Sofia struggles against her bindings and will her still blurry vision to clear as to gain a sense of her surroundings.
She finds herself wishing that she had not.
Before her stands a dark figure, looming over her like the Angel of Death. She can't quite make out any features, but the the imposing sight is enough to rack her bones with a chill. Steeling her gaze, Sofia forces herself to straighten up in her chair as best as possible. As an officer, she's had extensive training based around keeping calm even under harrowing circumstances.
"Who are you?" Sofia asks the unidentified person, sparing a glance to a nearby table where she can just barely make out her personal effects. "And what do you want?"
